Matthew Kumin, Founder & CEO

Matthew has worked in the software and Internet industry for over 18-years and has extensive experience building data, content and publishing-oriented digital businesses.

Prior to founding PublishThis, Matthew served on the executive management team at Edmunds.com, where as EVP, Media he was responsible for helping grow the Internet’s leading automotive site from 2001-2008.  While at Edmunds, Matthew oversaw the company’s flagship website, Edmunds.com and led product development for the company’s successful web expansion, including its syndication platform that powered the automotive channels for AOL, the New York Times, iVillage and About.com, as well as launching, InsideLine.com, the leading destination for car enthusiasts, and CarSpace.com, the web’s most active automotive community.

Before that, Matthew helped develop and grow The Studio System, the entertainment industry’s premier film and television database.  Matthew started his career at Andersen Consulting and received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas in Austin.


Scott Decker, Founder & CTO

Scott architected the PublishThis platform and is responsible for leading the company’s technology team. Prior to founding PublishThis, Scott built and launched SportsUltra.com, an innovative sports aggregation and personalization site.

Before that, Scott worked for Blue Nile, the web’s leading online jewelry eCommerce site, where he helped architect, design and patent the company’s successful Diamond search.  Before BlueNile, Scott was a technical architect and engineering manager for Edmunds.com where he led the team that built out the company’s successful syndication platform, powering the automotive channels of a number of the web’s leading websites (AOL, iVillage, About.com and The New York Times).

Scott also architected and developed a unique online advertising inventory management and forecasting software system for the company that was later sold to DoubleClick.  Scott started his career as a Research Scientist for the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington where he worked in BioInformatics, Large Information Display programs, and developed advanced information display systems (including multiple patents) for the U.S. Department of Energy.


Michael Stark, VP, Engineering & Operations

Michael has vast experience in software development, engineering. and project management with enterprise technology software companies.  He has developed gaming platforms for social environments (Facebook, Myspace & Hi5), been involved with multiple IPOs, developed a multi-media platform processing over $1B in transaction commerce, co-developed a Telco platform with HP, and successfully lead several turn-around efforts.

Previously he was CTO of Fastpoint Gamers, VP of Engineering & Operations at Youbet.com, and VP of Engineering at Nucleus and VP of Engineering Vertel. Michael attended Hadassah Jerusalem where he studied Computer Science.


Jeff Horowitz, Chief Architect

A noted authority in software engineering with a specialty in turnarounds and start-ups, Jeff has been tapped by both new and established companies to architect and implement complex software systems and to organize efficient and scalable software engineering processes.  Jeff was a lead architect and engineer at Youbet.com—the most successful online wagering site in the U.S.—where he and his team were the first to combine real-time video streaming, real-time data and wagering into an Internet website. Jeff recently has been awarded two patents for his work at Youbet.com. During his time at Youbet, transaction volume increase from $25 million to over $1 billion per year.

Jeff was the first employee and CTO at Edenet Communications, where his team built a hospitality system combining Internet, TV and video for hospital patients using Internet and streaming media. The technology from Edenet is now used in many hospitals across the US. As Director of Research and Development at Peerless Systems, Jeff built embedded systems for laser printer controls and received patents for work in compression and real-time continuous tone color rendering algorithms burned in silicon. Jeff also designed and developed the catastrophe recovery systems for the world’s first commercially successful massively parallel computing system at Teradata.

Jeff has published several papers, spoken at several conferences, been awarded four patents and participated in four IPOs. He holds a PhD in Computer Science and a BS in Mathematics from UCLA, graduating top of the class in math.


Matt Jessell, VP, Content Marketing

Matt currently serves as the Vice President of Content Marketing where he oversees the Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Account Services functions. Previously at Federated Media, where he was a founding member, Matt held a broad scope of leadership roles in Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Client Solutions.

At FM he conceived and launched hundreds of award-winning digital campaigns for Fortune 500 brands including Intel, BMW, Dell, Clorox, Toyota, American Express, and more. Matt also built and grew Strategic Programs and Ad Sales Operations into multimillion-dollar business units, led corporate reorganization efforts, and launched the LA office. Prior to his work with Federated Media, Matt held key positions in Sales Development and Marketing at Wired/Conde Nast. 

He has unique expertise in Brand Marketing, Content Marketing, Social Media, Audience Development, Platforms, and Publishing. Matt graduated from the University of Montana Business School with a dual emphasis in Business Management and Marketing.


Chris Lane, PhD , Director Data

Chris received a PhD from the University of Colorado in Aerospace Engineering Sciences in 2007 and then went to work for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, CA. While at JPL, he helped design and build a software package for precise orbit determination of the GPS constellation using the GIPSY GPS data processing software. He has been at PublishThis since 2010 and has been instrumental in building the backend database systems and processes.


John Greiner, Director, Systems Engineering

John has worked in enterprise software since 1990. In that time he has designed, deployed and maintained mission critical financial transaction processing systems, live audio/video streaming, peak usage event planning and data center migration for Youbet.com, Twinspires.com, FasterThanLight, Inc. and more. He holds software patents, and graduated with a BS in Computer Science Engineering, from the University of Pennsylvania.
